Prevent Wound Infection

When a large number of bacteria get into a wound, it can get infected. There are different types of bacteria. More than one type may infect your wound at the same time. Normal bacteria that live on your skin often enter a wound first. A break in the skin gives them a chance to enter it and cause infection. Bacteria may also come from the environment, such as soil, air, or water. If an object such as a nail caused the wound, bacteria may come from that. If you are bit by an animal or person, their saliva could also cause infection.
