I’ve owned a copy for years and never get tired of pouring over it. It’s the excellent photography and layout of the book that I love. You really get a sense of the look of an individual breed and there’s some history all woven through. So I sent a copy to my niece for her birthday and she is raptly glued to the pages. She’s trying to decide what kind of horse to buy when she moves to Montana. Highly recommended!

The information is detailed, the pictures are glossy and sharp and incredible to look at. Every animal in this book is labeled by common name as well as scientific name making it easy to refer back to. The animals that are highlighted are not necessarily the most popular which is what I liked the most.

Very comprehensive with wonderful pictures. It has just what I wanted. I can’t imagine that any mammal was left out.

This book is amazing. It’s very detailed, has excellent pictures, and provides all the information you could want on practically any kind of mammal. It’s organized into several groups, so you can find the animal you’re looking for easily, along with other animals that are similar to it in family, genus, and behavior. I highly recommend purchasing this book, it has everything you’re looking for and more!

a nice book full of pictures and color but lacks in information…
Great for kids, nice for impressing friends, excellent at holding doors from slamming in a draft.
As a book dealing in mammology and zoology lacks and disappointing.
Great pictures…

This encyclopedia is ideal for those horse lovers (or folks just interested in horses) who want a beautifully illustrated book on horse breeds. The authors provide enough useful information on each breed without getting bogged down in too much unnecessary detail. The only drawback i found was that the book does not provide any information on horse care, tack or horse management.

This is a very informative book on horses. It is very detailed and technical. The pictures are excellent but very graphic. I bought this book for my daughter who’s ten and “horse crazy”. I thought it would be a good start to her collection but it’s too mature(the life cycle etc.)This is geared more to a more mature audience.
